AHOL Games Weekly Update 6/10/23

The 1st round of THE GAMES got us off to a cracker! There was lots of very lovely little moments, and some not so lovely (Harry!!). Heres hoping Round 2 is just as good. This weeks update contains info for Round 2 including a breakdown of the rules. As well as updates on the Tennis (SE), a new event for the games and a table as of 06/10/23.

Kickball (R2)

Everything you need to know about round 2;

Kickball is a simple game consisting of two teams, bases, and a big red ball. Played like rounders, the goal is to score more runs than the opposing team.

  • Captains pick teams on the day
  • Best of 3 format
  • If an imbalance of team numbers then the captain or CNP will kick twice
  • “bouncies” are allowed but it must bounce at least twice before home-plate.
  • You can throw a runner out, dodgeball style
  • Catchouts and base outs
  • Bonus World Championship Points

Once teams are assembled, one team takes the field and the other prepares to kick. Play begins when the pitcher rolls the ball to the kicker. Once the kicker kicks the ball, they run around the bases in order depending on how far they kick the ball – further kicks will afford the runner more time to traverse more bases.

If the ball lands in the foul zone(outside the direct 90 of the kicking plate), the kicker must try again and the foul will count as a strike. If a fielding player catches the ball before it touches the ground, the kicker is automatically out. If a fielding player manages to get the ball and pass it to one of the players on the base the runner is going to before the runner gets there, the runner is out. If any fielding player manages to smash the ball off the runners head (other body parts also apply) while they are in a baseless zone, the runner is out.

When a player makes it around all bases and returns to the home base, the kicking team scores a run. The kicking team should aim to score as many runs as possible in an inning. After both teams have kicked, the team with the most runs wins the inning. 1st to 2 wins (best of 3) or if time allows then best 5 format.

50 Bonus World Championship points are awarded for every run scored as well as catch outs and smash outs.

Tennis

I need to apologise as I have fumbled this event, but lessons learnt. This event and all future Solo Events will be accompanied with a fixture schedule. And if the given date and time are not suitable for the player then they can look to reschedule with there opponent. This also makes the possibility of Byes into the next round more fair and easier to determine. Below is a reminder of the round of 16 draw as well as a schedule for the games to take place.

Challenge Events

Introducing a new addition to The Games; Challenge Events! This will be the filler of the series if you will, as its an opportunity for everyone to pick up points. Well dependent on the difficulty of the challenge that is. There will be a minimum of 3 Challenge Events each season, with a ‘beginner’, ‘intermediate’, & ‘advanced’ Challenge being set.

World Championship

Callum has a nice lead at the top after his outstanding round 1 performance. Can he maintain top spot or will the chasing pack catch up, its all to play for in round 2.
